The Association of Fundraising Professionals CA, Desert Communities Chapter (AFP), hosted its 15th annual National Philanthropy Day in the Desert Awards, first at an elegant preview reception Nov. 4 at The Classic Club, followed the next day by the organization’s virtual awards celebration, which was livestreamed by media sponsor KESQ TV.
The preview, attended by more than 200 guests, recognized the NPD 2021 award nominees while celebrating this year’s six distinguished honorees, who shine a light on the kindness and generosity we witness every day in our community.
“All of us at the Association of Fundraising Professionals CA, Desert Communities Chapter are moved and inspired by the authenticity and generosity of each of this year’s honorees,” said Brian Daly, president of AFP CA, Desert Communities Chapter.
Patti Grundhofer once again was this year’s presenting sponsor. Patrick Evans, KESQ TV’s chief meteorologist and host of Eye on the Desert, emceed the awards celebration, while solar company Hot Purple Energy underwrote its band to entertain guests during the preview reception.
“The 15th annual National Philanthropy Day in the Desert Awards returned to the Classic Club after 15 years,” said Josh N. Zahid, National Philanthropy Day in the Desert chair. “We have had a long-standing history and partnership with this amazing club, so it was a perfect venue for this elegant reception.”
This year’s distinguished honorees included Linda Rider, Outstanding Philanthropist; Dawn E. Rashid, Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer; Agape Salon & Spa, Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation, Corporation/Civic Service Organization; Armando Ehrenzweig, founder of Get in Motion Entrepreneurs, Outstanding Nonprofit Founder; Solange Signoret, Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy and Gailya Brown, Outstanding Fundraising Professional.
During the Classic Club reception, the Association of Fundraising Professionals made a surprise announcement, donating $1,000 to nonprofit Boo2Bullying to acknowledge the selfless efforts of Signoret, one of this year’s honorees.
